Nahant Street Yard Waste Site Opens April 6

The Nahant Street yard waste site will open on April 6 for disposal of leaves, grass, clippings, shrubs, and brush. Permits are $25 and can be obtained at the DPW office in Town Hall or online. Proof of residency is required. Permits must be renewed annually. Learn more about the site and view the schedule.

Mercury Collection April 24 and June 12

Residents can safely dispose of mercury at the Nahant Street site on April 24 and June 12 from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A permit is not required for this service.

At-Home Compost Bin Sale Through May 10

If you’re interested in composting at home, consider taking advantage of the Public Works current at-home compost bin sale. From now until May 10, Wakefield’s Public Works Department is offering residents at-home composting bins from Earth Machine for $55. The Earth Machine has an 80-gallon capacity, is BPA free, features a twist-locking lid, and is designed with a harvest door for easy compost removal. Discounted Rain Barrels Through May 12

From now until May 12, residents can purchase a Great American Rain Barrel for the discounted price of $89. There is an additional $20 discount for the first 120 barrels sold using promo code WAK24. Learn more and make your purchase.

Curbside Yard Waste Collection May 18

Spring curbside leaf collection will take place on May 18. Yard waste must be curbside prior to 7 a.m. in biodegradable paper bags or barrels. Plastic bags cannot be collected.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event June 22

Reading and Wakefield co-host hazardous waste days for residents of these two communities. The spring event will take place on June 22, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Reading Public Works facility (75 New Crossing Rd.)  Read about the materials that can be collected.
