MLK and CSK Event 2024

A video is now available for those who were not able to attend the Human Rights Commission’s Monday, January 15, 2024 event to honor the lives and work of Dr. King and Coretta Scott King.

Throughout the program, the principles of Kingian Non-Violence were emphasized, often in the words of Dr. King. The event required the talents of many people.

  • Keynote speaker Sen. Jason Lewis
  • Invocation by Rabbi Greg Hirsh of Temple Emmanuel of Wakefield
  • Student readers, Gia Rizzuto and Vanessa Westlake
  • OrigiNation’s beautiful dance and spoken word performance
  • Student art by Cassie and Sydney Boettcher, and Ethan Mezikofsky
  • School Superintendent Doug Lyons’ presentation of the Community Service Award to Margie Daniels for her work through the Mass. Partnership for Youth
  • Ethan Reppert of the Boys and Girls Club

The event also was interactive. The audience joined Rabbi Greg Hirsh of Temple Emmanuel for a singalong of “Teach Your Children Well”. Members of the audience were invited to the stage to learn a short dance taught by Origination’s Artistic Director Shaumba-Yandje Dibinga.

This annual commemoration was presented with the support of a grant from the MA Cultural Council. The WHRC would like to thank the Metco Program, WCAT, the Wakefield schools and PTOs, and the Clergy Council for their assistance in planning this program.

Help us beautify the Boys and Girls Club.
