Woburn to Wakefield Line Project Update

Preliminary site preparation work is ongoing along the unused MBTA Right-of-Way between Bennett Street and Salem Street in Wakefield.

To date this work has consisted of brush and debris clearing. Starting this week, contractors will shift the focus of their work on the right-of-way to railroad track and tie removal between Salem and New Salem Street.

During the week of November 5th, a work site will be established to begin removal of the railroad tracks and ties that intersect Richardson Street, Bennett Street and Main Street. Please note that in order to minimize impacts and facilitate daytime traffic flow this work is planned to place between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Barring any unforeseen issues, we expect the vast majority of track and tie removal in this area to be complete by the end of the week of November 5th.

Through the month of November, you can expect the following activities to take place along the MBTA ROW:

  • Removal of unused rail and ties.
  • Installation of rock barriers at access created due to clearing to limit future dumping along the right-of-way.
  • Selective tree removal and pruning of the MBTA ROW to minimize visual impact.
  • Test pit work to confirm subsurface conditions.
  • Removal of abandoned appliances and machinery; stacks of rails and ties, piles of asphalt and general debris discarded over the years.

As always, if you have any questions about the above referenced work, we encourage you to contact a member of our outreach team on our dedicated project hotline (844-646-8427) via email at info@ma-nhsolution.com.
