Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
In the spring of 2019, the Emergency Management department offered residents over the age of 18 the opportunity to be part of a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). This nationwide program formally educates individuals in disaster preparedness and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, team organization, and disaster medical operations. In addition to providing support during an emergency, Wakefield’s participants could be called upon as a resource at large events, like the Independence Day parade and town festivals.
After completing all 20 hours of training, CERT members developed the skills to safely respond to manmade and natural hazards and help organize basic disaster response.
