Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Wakefield’s Health and Human Services Department is participating in two important events where the community can learn more about mental health and wellness, connect with support services, and discover local resources for themselves or a loved one.

Community Support Meet and Greet: May 23

On Thursday, May 23, Wakefield’s outreach staff welcomes community members to an informal meet-and-greet at Lucius Beebe Memorial Library. Attendees can hear about local mental health programs, substance-use treatment and recovery, and family and domestic support. The team will also be providing free Naloxone (nasal Narcan) and training.

The event will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the lecture hall of the Library, located at 345 Main Street. Wakefield’s Clinician, Recovery Coach, Family Services Officer, and Health and Human Services Department staff will be available for information and conversation.

Mental Health First Aid Workshop: May 31

In this workshop, participants will learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health or substance-use challenges in adults, how to offer and provide initial help, and how to guide a person toward appropriate professional care, if necessary. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, psychosis, and addictions. The workshop will take place on May 31 at Lucius Beebe Memorial Library from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and advanced registration is required. Space is limited; please sign up online or call 781-246-6334 to register.
