Sanitary Sewer Overflow Notifications

On January 7, 2022, 314 CMR 16.00: Notification Requirements to Promote Public Awareness of Sewage Pollution was put into effect, and subsequently amended on January 21, 2022, by the State of
Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP). MassDEP developed these regulations to make sure the public knows when untreated, blended, or partially treated sewage flows into
Massachusetts waters through a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO).

As required by this regulation, the Town of Wakefield will notify the public of any SSO that occurs and directly affects a water body within the community. These postings will appear on our homepage in the News and Events section. You can opt to receive these news announcements via email as soon as they are published.
