Step 3: Spread the Word

If you are looking to spread the word and increase participation in your event, there are several channels for promotion:

Online calendar

Submit your event to the Wakefield Community Calendar. This online calendar, maintained by the Beebe Library, is featured on the Town of Wakefield and Beebe Library’s websites.

Advertise with a banner

You can apply to have a banner hung across Main Street just outside the Americal Civic Center. You will need to submit an application at least 90 days prior to the date you wish to have the banner featured. If approved by the Town Council, Wakefield Municipal Gas and Light Department staff will raise the banner for you, but you will be responsible for its creation, delivery, and storage. Banners are granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Kiosks

Thanks to the work of the Wakefield Main Streets organization, and the generous donations of individuals and corporate sponsors, the Town of Wakefield features informational kiosks throughout our downtown. The purpose of these kiosks is to offer Wakefield organizations, citizens, non-profit groups, and town government an alternate medium to share information and promote public events.
You can submit a poster to promote your event online.

Media outlets:

  • Wakefield Community Access TV (WCAT) provides civic, educational, cultural, and public content from the government and public channels of Verizon (42 and 40), Comcast (22 and 3) and RCN (13 and 3). Connect with the WCAT staff to see how they may be able to feature your event.
  • For over a century, the Wakefield Daily Item has served the community. It publishes a printed newspaper Monday through Friday and posts lead stories on its website.
  • Online news outlets, like Wakefield Patch, North Suburban News, and Wicked Local, among others, often publish Wakefield-based news and events. Facebook community groups are also great options to help spread the word.

Route 95 billboard

The Town has access to a limited amount of air time on a digital billboard on Route 95 south. Only community-based, nonprofit organizations can apply to publicize their messages. If you are interested in having your event featured, you must submit an application at least 30 days prior to the date you would like it aired. Message is subject to approval by the Town Administrator.

You will be responsible for creating artwork to the specifications provided by the media company: 400 x 1400 pixels at 72 dpi. The artwork must be an uncompressed, RGB-mode JPG file.
