Wakefield Bylaw Review Committee Seeks Community Input for Zoning Recodification

The Wakefield Bylaw Review Committee is seeking input from community members and the public on the priorities for zoning recodification that is currently in process. The Committee is having a hybrid forum on Thursday, June 27 at 7:00 PM in the Community Room at the Public Safety Building and on Zoom. This forum is especially useful for anyone interested in land use, zoning, allowable uses, prohibited uses or the need for special permits.

The Committee has been diligently working with zoning specialist Attorney Mark Bobrowski to simplify and recodify the entire zoning code (currently Chapter 190 of the Town’s Bylaws). There are many decisions that need to be made to help determine the town’s priorities as implemented through the zoning bylaws. Feedback is accepted at any time. The purpose of having a forum style meeting is to encourage discussion about various issues related to zoning. The current draft is available on the Town website pages for the Bylaw Review Committee.

The recodified zoning is currently anticipated to be ready for presentation to Town Meeting in spring 2025. By getting more feedback, the discussions and language can continue to be modified to meet the needs of the town now and going forward.

For any questions about the meeting, process, or content, please contact the Committee by e-mail at bylawreviewcommittee@wakefield.ma.us. For disability accommodations at the meeting, please also contact town ADA Coordinator/Town Engineer William Renault at 781-246-6308 or wrenault@wakefield.ma.us.

The Bylaw Review Committee is created through the Town Charter and reviews the bylaws of the town, presenting proposed changes to Town Meeting. The Annual Town Meeting in 2022 appropriated funds for a specialized zoning lawyer. The members were appointed in 2022 by the Town Council and meet regularly.

For those who join remotely via Zoom or telephone, please use the following information. A direct link can be found on the meeting notice on the Town website at https://www.wakefield.ma.us. Meeting ID: 874 9854 0448, Passcode: 704172, Optional phone dial in number: 1-301-715-8592.
