At their recent committee meetings, Wakefield’s Town Council, Finance Committee, School Committee, and Environmental Sustainability Committee all unanimously voted to support Article 1, the only Article on the Warrant for the January 28 Special Town Meeting. Residents will vote to see if the Town will, "appropriate a sum of money to the pay costs of constructing a new Wakefield Memorial High School..." Visit the Article in its entirety.
Special Town Meeting will take place Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. in the Field House at the High School (60 Farm Street). An expanded accessible parking area will be available by the entrance to the field house, which is located at the rear of the school. Spaces in that rear lot will also be designated for seniors who may have mobility challenges but do not have a placard or plate to use an accessible space. Voter parking is available in the high school lots, at the Woodville School, in the Landrigan Field lots on Hemlock Road, and along Hemlock Road and Farm Street. View the parking map.
The Boys and Girls Club will provide free childcare for voters. Guardians can drop off their children in the High School cafeteria 15 minutes prior to the meeting and must remain on the premises for the entire duration of time that their children are in the care of Boys and Girls Club staff. Families can provide nut-free snacks and water bottles for their children in a bag that is labeled with their names. Staff members are only able to care for children that are fully toilet trained.
