Special State Primary and Special State Election Dates Announced

32nd Middlesex District

The dates for the Special State Election have been scheduled to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of State Representative Paul Brodeur.  Mr. Brodeur represented three precincts in Wakefield: precincts four, five, and six.  

“I am pleased that the dates for the Special State Primary and the Special State Election have been scheduled,” noted Wakefield Town Clerk Betsy Sheeran. “These two special elections will include only registered voters in precincts four, five, and six. The Presidential Primary Election will be held on March 3 and includes all of the seven precincts. The dates for the Special State Primary and the Special State Election are as follows: 

October 1, 2019
Last day for a person running in the State Primary to enroll in a party or for a person running only in the State Election to un-enroll from a party, except for newly registered voters.  It should be noted that this date has passed.

December 24, 2019 at 5:00 p.m.
Last day and hour to submit nomination papers to City/Town Clerks, local Registrars of Voters, or Election Commissioners for the certification of signatures.

December 30, 2019
Certification of nomination papers must be completed.

December 31, 2019 at 5:00 p.m.
Last day and hour for filing nomination papers, including enrollment certificate and State Ethics Commission receipt, with the Secretary of the Commonwealth. 

January 3, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.
Last day and hour for filing withdrawals of or objections to all nomination papers and certificates of nomination with the Secretary of the Commonwealth.

January 8, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. 
Last day and hour for filling vacancies caused by withdrawals for primary candidates.

January 15, 2020 
Last day to register voters for the State Primary; registration hours are 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

February 4, 2020 
State Primary; polls open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

February 10, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.
Last day and hour to file withdrawals of or objections to nominations made at the State Primary and to file written acceptances by write-in or sticker candidates who won in the State Primary with the Secretary of the Commonwealth. 

February 12, 2020
Last day to register voters for the State Election; registration hours are 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. 

February 13, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.
Last day and hour for filling vacancies caused by withdrawals at the State Primary. 

March 3, 2020
State Election; polls open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
