Sharps Disposal and Medication Take Back

Medication Take Back Sites

If you need to dispose of medications, the Health and Human Services Office at 5 Common Street can provide you with deactivation pouches for safe, at-home disposal; please do not bring the medications to the office. The following local pharmacies will accept them for proper disposal. Note that neither the Health and Human Services office nor the Public Safety Building are medication drop-off sites.

  • CVS: 572 Main St., Wakefield
  • CVS: 107 Main St., Stoneham
  • Walgreens: 225 Main St., Stoneham

Syringe and Sharps Returns

A sharps drop-box is available at the Health and Human Services office at 5 Common Street (next to Town Hall). The Public Safety Building is not a sharps drop-off site.

When disposing of needles, remember that they must be placed in a safe, secure container.

  • Place syringes and needles in a puncture-proof container, like a coffee can or small detergent bottle.
  • Place puncture-proof container in the deposit drawer of bin at the kiosk.
  • Do not deposit loose syringes or needles.
