National Preparedness Month is recognized each September to promote disaster and emergency planning. The Federal Emergency Management Agency suggests that households have basic supplies on hand in order to survive for at least three days if an emergency occurs.

To ensure all residents can create preparedness kits, Envision Wakefield hosted a drive in September 2019. The emergency supplies collected were provided to the Wakefield Food Pantry, which serves almost 600 local households. The collection accepted:

  • Antibiotic ointment
  • Bandages
  • Batteries
  • Can openers
  • Deodorant
  • First-aid kits
  • Garbage bags
  • Gauze
  • Moist towelettes
  • Soap
  • Toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste
