The primary responsibility of the Office of Community Development (OCD) is to secure and administer expenditures of Federal, State and other grant funds to improve the quality of life for Wakefield residents. The office applies for funds that generally benefit Wakefield residents whose household incomes are low or moderate as determined by guidelines established by HUD. The housing rehabilitation program (see Information Sheets and sample application) and projects that increase handicapped accessibility to Town owned properties are programs that have received recent
funding. Other eligible activities, for which the Town could request funds, include social service programs, provision of affordable housing and planning activities.
The Office has secured funding for projects benefiting the Town as a whole, such as handicapped accessibility for the Town Hall, Americal Civic Center, and various parks and playgrounds. The ODC has also secured funding to assist in purchasing land for open space.
