Stormwater Forum ~ 4/20/2017 6:00pm-7:30pm @ Public Safety Building (1 Union Street)

A Stormwater Forum will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM in the first floor (training) conference room at the Wakefield Public Safety Building, 1 Union Street, Wakefield.  The public is invited to attend and participate in the presentation that will be given by the Department of Public Works.

The Stormwater Forum is one of the many activities conducted under the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Phase II Stormwater Permit.  The NPDES Permit is a Federal Regulation which requires regulated communities to develop a storm water management program, that will to the maximum extent possible, prevent harmful pollutants from entering receiving water bodies through municipal storm drainage systems.

The Town is currently completing the fourteenth-year extending nine-years from the original five-year permit.

During the fourteenth year of the program (May 1, 2016 through April 30, 2017) the Town has been working on a number of items which included: investigation and mapping of the storm drainage system; stream maintenance program, investigating the potential for illicit discharges to the storm water system, training of municipal employees, public education through newsletters and assessing the quality of receiving streams, rivers and ponds.  During the meeting we will also be discussing the next year of the program.
