Wakefield, Mass.—This Thursday, come experience the creativity of more than 50 local artists who have captured the magic of Wakefield’s prize jewel, Lake Quannapowitt!

All community members are invited to Lake Quannapowitt Photo Night in Downtown Wakefield, an art show and reception featuring original photography, paintings, and other artistic renderings of Wakefield’s beloved “Lake Q.” Hosted in partnership by the Albion Cultural Exchange (ACE) and Friends of Lake Quannapowitt (FOLQ), the event will take place on Thursday, December 7 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00pm at the ACE Center on 9 Albion St. The event is free of charge and complimentary refreshments will be served.

Celebrating “the artist in all of us”

You might be wondering, who are the 50-plus featured artists at this event? The answer: anyone who wanted to participate! Throughout the month of November, ACE and FOLQ hosted an open call for art submissions, encouraging all community members—from professionals with portfolios to amateurs with photo apps—to submit their photos, paintings, or other artistic renderings of Lake Q.

“Our goal in building the art show to honor Lake Q was to crowdsource the artistic vision of every community member, not just a select few,” said Albion Cultural Exchange Committee Chairman Christopher J. Carino. “Our view at ACE is that anyone in town can be an artist, if there’s a creative hub to spark their curiosity and encourage them to put their imaginations to work.”

First Thursdays in Downtown Wakefield

Lake Quannapowitt Photo Night in Downtown Wakefield is also part of ACE’s “First Thursday in Downtown Wakefield” series, a monthly program featuring a variety of events in the ACE Center’s main gallery. Held on the first Thursday night of every month(except January and July), the events include artistic viewing opportunities, as well as interactive experiences engaging local residents and visitors with conversation, culture, and camaraderie. Many local businesses in Downtown Wakefield, including restaurants and shops, offer extended evening hours and specials on First Thursdays.

A special thank you to our partners

Together, the teams at ACE and FOLQ would like to thank all local artists who submitted their work, for an event that aims to embody the spirit of Lake Q’s role as a community gathering spot. A very special thanks also goes out to valued community partner Hunt’s Photo, which generously offered to print participants’ photos for the event, free of charge.
