Sharps Disposal and Medication Drop Box

Through a collaborative effort by the Wakefield Health and the Wakefield Police Department we offer both a Medication Take Back Program and Sharps Drop OFf 24x7x365 at the Wakefield Public Safety Building located at 1 Union Street, Wakefield. There are a few simple steps to help guide you through this process.

Medication Take Back Program

  • Clean out your medicine cabinet of any unused or expired prescription medications.
  • Keep all medications in the original bottle or container. Do not remove labels.
  • Black out any personal information, but keep the name of the drug visible on the label.
  • Place container in a small zip lock bag.
  • Please log medications on form provided at the drop box. (This step is completely voluntary and it assists the departments in our program assessment.)
  • Place bagged medication and form in the deposit drawer of the drop box.

Syringe and Sharps Return Kiosk

  • Place any syringe and needle in a puncture proof container such as a coffee can or small detergent bottle.
  • Place puncture proof container in deposit drawer of bin at the kiosk.
  • Please DO NOT deposit loose syringes or needles.
