Transportation Service

Wakefield’s Council on Aging has transportation services available so our residents can attend medical appointments, get to the bank or salon, grocery shop, and more.

Please schedule all transportation requests at least 48 hours (two working days) in advance by calling 781-245-3312. There is a $2 service fee per local Wakefield trip; transportation to the Senior Center is free.

General transportation

Our service is available to take you to salons, barber shops, banks, shops, and residences throughout Wakefield. General transportation is available Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. 

Medical appointments

Medical appointment transportation to Wakefield health centers and surrounding communities is available on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. On Wednesday and Friday, transportation is available within Wakefield. 

Grocery shopping

We provide service to Wakefield’s Shaws grocery store each Monday at 1 p.m. and Reading’s Market Basket grocery store each Tuesday at 1 p.m. Due to space limitations, there is a limit of 4 bags per shopper and no cases of products are allowed. 

Registry of Motor Vehicles

Service to the Registry of Motor Vehicles is available once a month for a $5 fee. 

Senior Center 

Transportation to the Senior Center is available daily at no charge.

Additional options

  • The RIDE is the MBTA’s door-to-door, shared-ride paratransit service. The RIDE is operated by the MBTA in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Trip Metro North is a unique, free, passenger-controlled transportation program open to older adults and adults living with disabilities.
