"Go the Extra Mile" - Walking Campaign

"Go the Extra Mile"

Inaugural Walk

Saturday October 7, 2017

(Wakefield, MA) - The Town of Wakefield is excited to announce the "Go The Extra Mile" walking campaign with an inaugural group walking event Saturday September 30, 2017 beginning at 9am from the Wakefield Common. The goal of the "Go the Extra Mile" campaign is to promote heart healthy activities as well as promote foot traffic through and around downtown.

"We are excited to link Wakefield's popular Lake Quannapowitt with our thriving Downtown Arts, Culture & Business District" said Town Administrator Steve Maio.

Participants in the inaugural walk will be led on a path that modifies the typical lake walk to include an extra loop through downtown. The added mileage will provide health benefits to both the walkers and downtown businesses which will receive increased foot traffic on the sidewalk.

"Linking the Downtown and the Lake would promote a healthy lifestyle and the business community, it makes sense!" according to Board of Selectman Chairman Paul DiNocco.

The Board of Selectmen would also like to thank Wakefield Co-operative Bank and the Wakefield Main Streets Group for sponsoring and promoting the "Go the Extra Mile" campaign. With the help of these sponsors 50 FREE T Shirts will be given out at the event along with walking maps and other goodies provided to walkers.
