BOSTON - House lawmakers approved a supplemental spending plan last week that includes $130,000 for Lynnfield to build sidewalks and conduct a study on developing bike paths.

Under the plan, $100,000 would be dedicated to designing and constructing sidewalks on Green Street, a residential road with eight houses that runs from Route One to Corporate Place office park at the rear of the Holiday Inn.

The remaining $30,000 would be used by Lynnfield and Wakefield to study the feasibility of building a “rail trail” bike path next to Reedy Meadow marsh.

“Reedy Meadow is an important and beautiful piece of conservation land that should be enjoyed by all,” said House Minority Leader Bradley H. Jones Jr. “This money will help Lynnfield and Wakefield get started on opening the area to bicyclists.”

“I am very pleased we could secure these funds in the House so we can encourage walking and biking in a safe, secure, healthy and environmentally friendly way,” said Rep. Mark Falzone, D-Saugus.

Jones, R-North Reading, and Falzone advocated for the funding to be included in the House spending plan. The money must now be approved by the Senate before it can be sent to Gov. Mitt Romney's desk for his signature.
