The overall responsibility of the Animal Control Officer is public safety,
public health, animal control and animal protection.
The Animal Control Officer / Animal Inspector's position is appointed by the Town Administrator and is empowered by Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 140, Section 151, Chapter 151, and Chapter 129, Section 15 & 16 as well as the By Laws of the Town Of Wakefield.
The officer maintains an office at the shelter in Saugus at 515R Main Street, which is accessible to the public during working hours by appointment. However any mailings should be sent to the Animal Control Office, at 1 Lafayette Street, Wakefield Ma. 01880.
